Bed Bugs and the Hospitality Industry: Little Bugs, Big Problems Seminar
3/25/2010
8:30am – 12noon
Philadelphia Courtyard by Marriott Downtown,
21 Juniper Street
Philadelphia, PA 19107
$25 for GPHA members - $65 for non-members
Although they may have been virtually extinct from the United States for the better part of 50 years, bed bugs have made an overwhelming comeback across the U.S. and causing huge headaches for the hotel industry. Due to their complex biology and behavior, the traditional “spray and walk-away” approach that may work for many pests is proving to be ineffective against bed bugs.
This presentation will cover:
•basic biology and behavior of bed bugs and explain how those facts make for an involved control program.
•why there may be no good answer on when to place a new tenant in a room once infested with bed bugs.
•a new treatment using heat to kill bed bugs that may provide a more aggressive approach to bed bug control that will greatly reduce the amount of stress placed upon property managers and owners.
•new product development in active bed bug monitors which can play an integral role in an in-house hospitality bed bug program.
Seminar will be presented by Jeffrey Whites, Research Entomologist, Cooper Pest Solutions and Bed Bug Central whose bio and credentials are attached.
(breakfast will be provided prior to the seminar)
